New Employee Information

Welcome to IUPUC! As a new employee, we want to ensure you have a great start in your new career.

As you become acquainted with the campus, our IT systems, and university business practices and policies, your supervisor and Office of Personnel Administration staff will help you complete all required forms and documents. In addition, on your first day of employment your supervisor will provide you with a new employee orientations packet that will give you a wealth of information about IU policies and benefits.

New Employee Orientation

After your new hire paperwork has been processed and approved, you will receive an e-mail from a benefit specialist in Human Resources Administration (HRA) at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)

The e-mail will inform you of the date you have been scheduled to attend the new employee orientation session at IUPUI. The orientation is mandatory for all new staff employees. It is important to attend this session so you can fully understand, select, and enroll in the benefit programs of your choice. These new employee orientation sessions help you have a positive beginning to your IUPUC employment. They provide a brief summary of each benefit plan, emphasize important points such as enrollment deadlines and required documentation, offer you an opportunity to ask questions for clarification or that relate to your individual situation, and allow you to make decisions and enroll online in the benefit plans of your choice.  The sessions are intended to give you a warm welcome to the university family and foster a sense of belonging and identification with Indiana University and IUPUC.

  • Before attending the session you may wish to review the entire list of benefits offered and view the IU Benefits Video.
  • Orientation is held in the Campus Center at IUPUI, located on the corner of Michigan Street and University Boulevard. You will have a break for lunch on your own and then will attend the health and safety training.
  • If you have children or dependents who will be enrolled in a university health insurance plan, verification of eligibility is required at the time of enrollment. Verification takes the form of written documentation of your relationship to the dependent. Typical documents accepted include birth certificates, a marriage certificate, or documentation of a domestic partner relationship.

Health & Safety Training

For your convenience, health and safety training (also required for all new staff employees) is delivered by the Environmental Health & Safety team on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the same location as the benefits overview.  If you have questions regarding health and safety training, please contact Rebecca Bratt at 317.274.2829.

NOTE: New employee orientation sessions and new employee health and safety training are optional for faculty appointees.

Benefits & Salary Information

As a new employee, you can find a great deal of information about benefits, employment, HR systems, organizational development, plan booklets, and much more posted on the Indiana University Human Resources web pages. You can explore details about IU medical plans, retirement readiness, and clinical care services. You'll also find an A to Z index of HR topics as well as frequently used HR forms.
