Biographical Statement

Thank you for coming to my page! My pedagogical and research areas of specialization focus on writing instruction, creative writing, and reflective practices. Students in my classes apply new skills for academic advancement, personal growth, and workplace advancement. 

Katherine V. Tsiopos Wills, PhD, serves as English Program Director and associate professor of English at Indiana University Purdue University Columbus, IN.  Her research is intentionally cross-disciplinary, as well as highly collaborative. Current research and teaching focuses on writing research and reflective writing practice. She has co-edited and/or written six books. Two of her co-edited collections received national recognition: the award-winning book Critical Power Tools: Technical Communication and Cultural Studies (with B. Scott and B. Longo 2006) for Best New Collection in Technical and Scientific Writing by National Council of Teachers of English, USA.  Also, ePortfolio Performance Support Systems: Constructing, Presenting, and Assessing Portfolios in Public Workplace  (with R. Rice 2013), received a Chapter Honorable Mention for contributed chapter on Disability Rhetoric in Digital Spaces written by contributor Sushil K. Oswal, as awarded by Computers and Composition Digital Press on Accessibility and Digital Composition. She co-edited The Politics ofInformation (with M. Bousquet 2002), under the rubric of materialist informatics. She has single-authored and co-authored over 40 scholarly publications about writing and reflective practicesin PEDAGOGY, Across the Disciplines, Business Communication Quarterly, Contrastive Linguistics (RU), Journal of Intellectual Disabilities, Journal of the Academy of Business Education, Midwest Quarterly, and numerous chapters. When she held a position as a biology research assistant, she co-authored articles in the area of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s neuroscience: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA, Developmental Brain Research, Brain Research, and Experimental Brain Research (1991-2001). In 2013, she was invited to co-facilitate a workshop on international academic writing at the 16 th Annual Fulbright Summer School in the Humanities at Moscow State University, Moscow, RU. She has received numerous awards and grants at the local, institutional, and national level.

As a poet, she has read her original poetry  at over 100 venues as invited guest reader or open reading performer.  She has read at Paris, France, cabarets Le Chat Noir and Le Lapin Agile; San Francisco Cloud House and Café Trieste; Chicago Skokie Public Library, New York 4Cs Reading of the Larks, Duff’s, in St. Louis, MO; Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the Art House of Columbus, Indiana. Her poetry was translated into Romanian by Lillian Ursu for Romanian NPR and translated into Greek for an audio archive at the Hellenic Museum of America (Chicago). She published one original chapbook of poetry: Our Slow Migration North, which touches on themes of the separation of diaspora and refugees issues.
