Over one-third of jobs in Bartholomew County are in manufacturing (ranked #59 in the United States, #1 in Indiana). In the IUPUC service region, between 24 percent and 37 percent of jobs are in manufacturing. Eleven of the nineteen “Hoosier Hot 50 Jobs” in Indiana Region 9 require a bachelor’s degree in business.

  

Innovation Management

Effective leadership in an advanced manufacturing setting increasingly emphasizes innovative thinking. Innovation Management infuses rigorous scientific methodology with design thinking in business, focusing on value creation in organizations where engineered systems are paramount to success.

As a student in the innovation management concentration, you will take 21 more credits in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) compared with other business concentrations, providing you with specialized capabilities for solving complex business and operations problems.

Overview

The goal of innovation management is to deliver leaders who are prepared to collaborate with professionals across diverse organizational functions while inspiring true innovations, yielding state-of-the-art solutions to modern business challenges.

With our concentration in innovation management, you will be ready to address business problems, focus on creating value, manage fixed and intangible resources, provide creative solutions to advance brands, and work well within corporations having significant engineered systems. Our curriculum combines business management principles, theories, and applications with advanced knowledge in STEM and design topics. You will explore core business areas and topics required to help businesses reach their strategic goals and effectively manage resources.

Career Options

As a business innovation management graduate, your career opportunities include positions such as supervisor or manager of production, projects, and operations, accountant or auditor (with a dual concentration in accounting), management analyst, or logistician with the potential for advancement to plant manager, controller, or CEO. You may also decide to pursue master’s or Ph.D. study in order to specialize in business administration, venture enterprises, corporate law, international operations, information technology, and many other current and emerging fields in today’s global business environment.
