Auditing a course

You may take a course on an “audit” basis. In this case,  you will not receive academic credit. Rather, the audited course will be indicated on your transcript with a grade of NC.

Courses you may audit do not apply toward any academic degree and do not count toward full-time or part-time enrollment for purposes of financial aid or for loan deferments.

To audit a course, contact your academic advisor to ensure this is a good choice given your program of study or if another grading option (such as pass/fail) might be more appropriate.

If your advisor agrees, then contact the instructor to request permission to audit the course and discuss the work expectations.

Instructors have discretion to deny audit requests.

General Information

  • The tuition for an audited course is the same as that as for a credit course.
  • In some cases, you may be unable to officially register for a class after taking it on an audit basis. Consult with your academic advisor or the Office of Registrar Services.
  • Request an audit form from the division offering the course, secure the appropriate signatures, and submit the form to the Office of Registrar Services by the date specified in the academic calendar.
  • Once the course audit has begun, you may not change to credit status.
